David Moore
David Moore is a writer, researcher, independent curator and museum / gallery consultant with a particular interest in modern and contemporary visual art collection development in Wales. He has published books and numerous articles, catalogues and reviews and is currently researching and writing a book about the life and work of Pembrokeshire artist Ray Howard-Jones.
David was brought up in Brentwood, Essex, where he worked for a year as a housing assistant. He has a degree from the University of Oxford, where he read geography at Keble College. He later researched historic landscape resources at Aberystwyth University.
He has worked in public museums and galleries for twenty years, starting as a volunteer at the Ceredigion Museum. An Associate Member of the Museums Association, he worked for Pembrokeshire Museum Service and then as curator of Brecknock Museum and Art Gallery. In Brecon he considerably developed the local history displays, established the art gallery, built up the art collection to include notable contemporary and historic artists, jointly founded an art collections trust and worked closely with the Brecknock Society.
David lives in Brecon, Wales, where he is chair of the friends of a regional mental health charity and a former chair of trustees of the charity itself. This helps to raise awareness of mental health issues in the community.
